$500 Intel Core 2 Duo Computer>> Continued

Guess what, I succeeded. If you weren't here to read the previous post it is at "THIS LINK ". Although I didn't get an actual core 2 duo processor, I could have. I spent ~$430 on my whole machine. The specs are this.

-Pentiuim D 2.66GHZ 2MB Cache
-260GB Hitachi SATA 3gb/s
-ECS 945GCT MOBO(Comes with on board Intel video that plays most all newer games)
-Sony DVD/CD R/RW Drive
-Rosewell Computer Case
-2GB Super Talent RAM
-Wireless Keyboard and Mouse

In short, this was a build I was very proud of. This would not have been possible without the donation of a 19" flat screen LCD. The price would have jacked up another $200 but is way cheaper than any computer you would buy from Best Buy or such. I could've afforded a Core 2 Duo with the spare cash, but I'm perfectly fine with this Pentium D. After all, it has two cores.

So, can it be done? No. Can you make a comparable machine? Yes.

Not everyone needs a HD that

Not everyone needs a HD that large though, which may save some more money...though doubtfully enough to get the Core 2 Duo. It is nice (and helpful) when you can gather parts (like LCD monitor, or even a HD) from an older computer that no one wants. :) Congratulations on your new computer! I hope the internal Intel graphics chip handles all the games you intend to play -- I have one of them in my laptop and I wanted to play Supreme Commander; it doesn't seem to handle it (though I'm unsure as to exactly why).

Hd Size

Actually, that HD only cost me $60. IT was an open item deal that I came across.

Well then, nice deal! :)

What do you plan to do with your extra money? Save it up? Buy some more books...?

It will be nice if there is

It will be nice if there is a photo of the computer.

As soon as I can I"ll post photos of the inside and outside of the computer.

Gamer?

Hi Mgccl,
are you a gamer or just a workahlolic? A pentium D is a great processor for working, but for the actuelly games its just to slowly. I got a Core 2 Duo E6300 working on E6400 overclocked and its fine with the newest games.

I'm no gamer, I use the computer mostly for work.
