This ad workz! For the first time in the year, I browsed a search engine other than Google.


I don't think people know what algorithm is.
I remember there is a double blind study between Google and Baidu. I strongly suggest the same research should be done between Google and Ask.

When I checked out Ask.com, I found Ask might not present the best result, but Ask got good user interface and powerful suggestions(maybe that's the algorithm they are talking about)
For instance, when I searches for PHP in Ask, in the sidebar, there is a suggestion "What Does PHP Stand for?". Personally, I like this suggestion, since when people always ask me what is PHP because they don't know what I do.

In the right side bar, it lists definition from wikipedia and result from blogs.

How about locations, like, Shoreham NY.

When I searches a location, the local time, weather, map all pop up in the right sidebar. Ask is like a mashup of all the search result one might need, like the commercial stated "I'm getting all these stuff from all over the place."

I also tested on search the symbol "∩". Like Google, MSN and Yahoo, Ask can't handle some special UTF symbols.
Overall, I found the Ask's search experience is ok...
